LAKE WILCOX PARK BOARDWALK

Lake Wilcox is a kettle lake in the Oak Ridges neighbourhood of Richmond Hill. The lake measures 1.5 kilometers across and covers 55.6 hectares, making it the largest kettle lake on the Oak Ridges Moraine. STUDIO tla was retained by the Town of Richmond Hill to design a $2.5 m wooden boardwalk in Lake Wilcox Park. The Boardwalk is an addition to and an extension of the existing waterfront promenade and is one of the elements in the implementation of the Council approved Oak Ridge’s Community Centre and Park Master Plan. 

 

Beyond the design and detailing of the boardwalk and surrounding plantings, preparation of contract documents and tender, STUDIO tla’s scope of work included: the protection of the existing concrete promenade; the installation of siltation the creation of a turbidity curtain shoreline and an in water access berm/roadway; pedestrian lighting and traffic controls; and, the installation of in water driven caissons to support the boardwalk.

 

The boardwalk has a length of 100 meters and will extend over Lake Wilcox by about 10 meters.  The completed Boardwalk provides the connectivity along the shoreline of Lake Wilcox Park and provides support for a wide range of users both from the immediate neighbourhood and across the GTHA. STUDIO tla worked closely with Planning, Parks and Engineering Staff to complete the project.
