SHERMAN CAMPUS

Toronto, ON
Client: Jewish Federation of Toronto
Size: 6.43 hectares
Completion: 2020

Located in North York, the Sherman Campus Development - which includes the adjoining Prosserman Jewish Community Centre - represent a key community asset for surrounding communities supporting social cohesiveness, continuity and ensuring future generations participate in Jewish communal life.

The outdoor program for the site includes an aquatic centre with an outdoor salt-water pool and children’s splash pad; an extensive outdoor children’s play facility; playing fields and pavilions, including three outdoor sports courts for day camp and community use; a bike and pedestrian trail with fitness stations; gardens; orchards; and an outdoor amphitheatre. Located within a designated flood zone, a key component of the landscape was ensuring that the design was sustainable and compatible with the surrounding natural habitat. Bioengineered water courses, vegetated edge management techniques and soil stabilization initiatives were integral to the design and to gain approval from the Toronto Conservation Authority.
