D3 DUBAI DESIGN DISTRICT

Dubai, UAE
Client: TECOM
Size: Varies
Completion: 2013
Envisioned as the design incubator for the UAE, the client TECOM is developing a complete urban district in Dubai with the intent of attracting the best talent from the world of fashion, architecture, and industrial design.  The first phase is the conversion and repurposing of a cluster of unfinished building shells connected via a highly amenitized pedestrian system of sidewalks, promenades, interior corridors and courtyards.  The public landscape is the unifying element of the district offering an adaptable palette of plazas, and event environments, along with programmable spaces for organic pop-up retail and art installations.  The master plan focuses on urban connections between interior and exterior spaces while providing visual interest and climatically appealing outdoor spaces that function day and night, as well as year-round—even in the harsh desert climate.
